Unbelievable what iBasso did here… as they’re shipping the DX300 Max to retailers they announce an LE once pre orders are already gone. I canceled my order, I won’t support that type of business practice.

Reminds me of the Hifiman HEK fiasco with thier different versions.
Really bad move from iBasso. Really dumb. Their secretive specs and then this shady move to not reveal this is very strange...
Is it just bad moves, or some type of reasons?
Could it be that, being from communist China, they had to show allegiance to China market? I shouldn't speculate, but I am feeling we will never get answers.

iBasso are just terrible with how they keep releasing a new thing each year making their release the previous year already seem old and abandoned. And Shanling and their outright announcement of abandoning the M8 for a new M9. None of these Chinese companies have shown they have any loyalty to the customer. I'm half expecting to get banned from head-fi soon for saying the same there I think it's just such a niche market with people proven to be willing to constantly upgrade because they're chasing a dragon that these companies figure they may as well try taking advantage of the audiophile userbase as much as possible. I mean, I doubt it's that huge of a market considering smartphones and all. Sony only for me

At the same time Shanling announce the M8 as discontinued and run out of AK4499/reallocated to the M9 it is announced by drop that the Shanling M8 is live and ready to ship.

The TI / LE MAX is not really meant for the western markets, as it wasn't even announced in any language other than Chinese. It will not be sold via the dealers but only through the iBasso website. And without the dealer cut, it is going to be around $3000. If you add the import costs and shipment, it will be like $3800. So it will be quite a jump in the price, like 65% with this calculation.
Definitely a stupid attitude from iBasso not announcing them together, but I kind of get that this is a different thing. I asked the dealer here and he contacted iBasso, and apparently iBasso told him that there is no difference in sound quality - maybe some difference in tuning?

With an unboxing video: www.sohu.com/a/482758796_121185345"The soundstage of the DX300max is what catches the ear on first listen, open and regular, with excellent extension at both ends and a stagey verticality, and a cleaner, more transparent bottom end than the 220max. The DX220max is already powerful enough in terms of detail, but the DX300max builds on this with even greater ease and layering. The midrange is more powerful and moist / smoother than its predecessor, the highs are smoother, the lows are better controlled and the overall sound is more musical and listenable."

Oh well, I ain’t joining Ibasso this time for that stunt. Also, I may deal away with the Chinese stuff. I still do love my M30 though. I will post something about it hardware soon
The next DAP I may get will either be Cayin N8ii or the AK SP2KT. To me, at least AK keep their stuff for a couple years and steadily until the next successor

Both shanling and Cayin have a multitude more daps out than iBasso, but I too am curious about the upcoming n8ii 🙂
Also thinking the 300max should arrive to US customers by next week. Those in Europe are lucky first owners.

There is an advantage to this not mentioned enough. The (direct) battery advantage of the PSU. batteries provide higher energy density for storage, while capacitors have more rapid discharge capabilities. The battery will not "run out of gas" like a storage cap, on ALL the other PSU in other Daps which use voltage boosting. This applies to practically ALL other daps PSU. No wait time for cap reservoir to charge up. No high frequency filtering. Look at the amp power output of the competition. Even if they had similar power, most are working with the current limitations of a step-up voltage PSU design. Performance limits will rely on the capability of how well it's designed. Not an easy accomplish. iBasso has the superior method.

Expensive , though the chassis while being expensive to make, the prices has pushed the brand Ibasso into luxury and highly revered brands name, such as AK, Luxury&Precision. At this pace, even Sony WM1Z look to be more special with materials wise.
Let’s review Sony WM1Z, while it isn’t the most powerful on the market in power output or DAC Chips. It is still unique with OFC Goldplated chassis , which Ibasso could reproduce with Dx200Cu, Sony has in-house S-Master , Fine sound resistors (in house) , Super capacitors and even upgraded Kimber Kables internally
I do like Ibasso and the all in one device form factor that can drive hd800s is great! I will try to get this edition and see what Ibasso has to offer.
