The DMP-Z1 based firmware for 1A and 1Z, as promised, was released. You can find it here. Features: - sound signature resembling the one of the DMP-Z1, with awesome bass response and amazing soundstage holography and extension (apply the DMP-Z1 tuning package after the installation) - native DSD playback over the 3.5 mm output (available only for the 4.4 mm balanced port on the stock firmware) - DSEE AI (present on DMP-Z1) - progressive JPEG and interlaced PNG album covers are supported - hardware accelerated rendition of the UI Regarding the native DSD playback that is also available for the 3.5 mm output with this firmware, it means that the "Play DSD in Native Format" option from "Output Settings" will also apply for the 3.5 mm output when playing DSD. This means that no sound effects are being applied while this option is selected, exactly like with the 4.4 mm balanced port. After installing the custom firmware, you should also install the "DMP-WM1 External Tuning" package, available in the archive. Also, you do not need to have a certain firmware version installed before-hand. To revert back to the stock firmware, use the "StockRevert" package, available in the downloaded ZIP archive. ________________________________________________ There will be versions of this for ZX300 and other players as well, but I still have to work a bit on them. I will also update the WM1A 2.0 and the other 1.4 mods, so I will post them there after I'll update them. So, let me see if I got this right. This has all Chameleon 2 has to offer plus a tuning that resembles that of DMP-Z1 right? |

Nope, this is not related to CHAMELEON 2.0.
CHAMELEON 2.0 brings the WM1Z sound, while this aims to bring the DMP-Z1 sound, in a way that has nothing to do with the 2.0 sound.

CHAMELEON 1.4 can be installed on WM1Z, but CHAMELEON 2.0 cannot, this is what I wanted to say  Looking forward to your feedback! |

How would you describe the sound difference between 2.0 mod and the new DMP Z1 mod?

Soundstage more holographic rather than wide, but it can also be very wide if the song calls it. Bass goes deeper and slams good. There is also better details retrieval.
This is only my opinion, with my gear.

Thank you Mr Walkman. Just can’t keep up with your releases. Haven’t even tried 2.0 yet ( waiting for my 1a to come home...😢) But looking forward to trying that and this!
