First post - happy to be here.
I've been totally satisfied with Chameleon 1A>1Z thinking it had pushed the limits of my WM1A but MrWalkman has worked his magic again, I'll give the new firmware a go tonight.
With the previous firmwares it seemed the biggest benefit was closing the gap between the 1A and the 1Z which was an impressive achievement considering the price difference but now aiming for THE DMP-Z1 seems insane, is there anyone with a DMP-Z1 who can comment on how close it sounds?

Recommend to update stock v3.02 first and then do the tune firmware. Don't forget to restart you Walkman after finished,

I modified the changing of the model to DMP-Z1 part, in order to prevent those issues when trying to install the DMP-WM1 Ext. Tuning would not work.
After first installing DMP-WM1, the player will boot up, and then it will quickly automatically restart while booting up, to ensure that the model is changed to DMP-Z1.

My way of installation was exactly the same (sorry for german language - I try to remember some from high school). There was something happening if the model was not the original one, from what I've noticed. I updated the installer, and now it will work from the first try. |

As this is the Sony Walkman FW mods thread, also meet the... DMP-A50Features: - sound signature resembling the one of the DMP-Z1, with awesome bass response and amazing soundstage holography and extension (apply the DMP-Z1 tuning package after the installation) - progressive JPEG and interlaced PNG album covers are supported - hardware accelerated rendition of the UI Installation:1. Install DMP-A50, and then close the installer 2. After that, install DMP-A50_Ext_Tuning 3. Restart the player To revert to the stock firmware:1. Install StockRevert (DMP-A50), and then close the installer 2. After that, install StockRevert_Ext_Tuning 3. Restart the player With both the firmware and the Ext. Tuning, the player should restart, so there should be two restarts of the player. Same goes for the reverting process. The firmware is available for downloading, here. Work is in progress for other devices as well, like ZX300/A40/A30. |

• If you used one of the visualization on the DMP-A50R firmware, after you'll return to the stock firmware, the play screen can be missing. This is because the stock firmware does not have visualizations. So either change the visualization to "Standard" before using the StockRevert package, or use the "Reset All Settings" option from the menu to bring the play screen back after using the StockRevert package. • If you'll get an error, showing the text "An error has occurred", restart the player. If the error doesn't go away, use the "Restore All Settings" option, and the error will go away. • DSEE AI is the same DSEE HX that is present in the A50 stock firmware. DSEE HX from the stock firmware is actually the same as the DSEE HX on the DMP-Z1, and it uses a form of AI. Sony mentions that on the A55 and DMP-Z1 product pages. • DSD playback while Direct Source is on, will result in no sound being played back. • You can't just switch between DMP-A50 and DMP-A50R. If you have one installed, you'll have to use their respective StockRevert package first, and then you'll be able to install the other. The firmware is available for downloading, here.

Mr Walkman: Is there a possibility to bring back clock to display? Normally is hidden due to library management.

Yes Dramba the clock featurette would be good ha, as I some times.look at my walkman for the time... thinking is my cell phone lol I am really appreciating the holographic Soundstage of DMP-Z1 for wm1A, now that I brought my xelastecs MS-size back to shape literally with boiling water. |

Well with my 1Z sick and the great fw mods for the lower tier players I picked up a second hand A55 with some cosmetic damage for £90 shipped to Denmark so I can give the new DMP based fw a try

Received my second hand A55 today. Region changed to J and installed the A50R fw set to high gain and source direct. Copied some high res flac and dsd albums and am listening now with IER-Z1R. Don’t have my 1Z with me to compare with but it sounds absolutely fantastic

Just discovered (I’m sure it has been mentioned before) that playing DSD files with A50R fw does not work with Source direct checked (well it works and music plays as I can see on the vu meter, but no sound)
