Hi everyone,
I currently own a Sony PS-HX500 USB Turntable that I'm interested in upgrading. Does anyone have any recommendations on what parts are worth replacing, or whether upgrading parts are ever worth it in the first place?
I've found a cheap "Stylus and belt" upgrade kit offered by LP Gear that has some decent reviews, but no back-to-back comparisons anywhere.
What are people's thoughts on replacing a turntable's mat to a different material too? Is it worth the difference? Or is it another one of these snake oil items that's on the market just to pocket from a hobby?
I'm not expecting a world of difference by some of these upgrades, nor am I interested in buying a higher end unit. The one I have does me well, I'd just like to get the most I can out of it....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve got that same Sony unit and to me it does a fine job of ripping my lp’s.
I’ve got at Rega P25 in storage that is clearly a much better deck but the all in one ease of the Sony is good enough for my ripping needs.

The ripped files always surprise me after a listening session, it could just be there’s better separation through my laptop than the actual speakers it’s connected to. I’ve got mine hooked up to a digital sound bar so there’s a lot of workarounds using a ADC to get the sound output. The USB is obviously just a direct feed

Mine’s hooked to my computer and I’ve got 2 Adam A3X powered studio monitors and just use the Sony software to listen to records every now and then. I’ve not considered doing any upgrades to the player
