souldriver, funnily enough I just repaired an RS8 today. Lifted pads and tracks on the 3.5mm. I noticed the hand soldered Hiby board mod at the circled area on this one too, although it's all back together now and I can't fully make out the markings on the picture I took. The board needs to come out with the screen and then separate the screen and board to get underneath to take an Elna cap off to access behind the 3.5mm properly 😅

souldriver, actually comparing the pics to the one I have here, this one has MLCC caps in place of your friends Panasonic Tantalum Polymer Poscaps 🤷♂️

Very interesting. I bet a bunch of silent revisions. I didnt really like the hiby sound and am Cowon all the way, but when i had an R62020 that had issues too. The battery would only charge with a specific cable and even then it was sloooooow.

Some good news, Hiby is covering it under warranty.

souldriver, Great stuff, thanks for posting, looks like changing those Poscaps to MLCC was indeed part of the R8 board revision.

I think the revision is more than just the capacitor ? Transistors don’t typically get fried like that. Hiby did a good call to perform warranty for sure Can’t wait until Steve have some personal invasive time with the player

It may come back for a modification.
