Just literally picked up a 128 SR25 at a sweet price, doubt it will surpass my FW modded Sony WM1A, equally A&K are one of the few I 'll look to for an online DAP, as they nuke all the usual Google BS, prioritising SQ over the usual nonsense. Will see soon enough, right now it's time to party as is a big national holiday here, girls are dressed to kill, all power to them as for the DAP I'll deal with that one later Q-6

After a few days, what do you think? I was looking at this heavily before getting the 1Z but pretty curious to see how this one performed! Still early days for me, so far the SR25 has impressed. I've a WM1A and rolled that back to stock Sony 3.02 firmware for several reasons one being to compare it directly to the SR25. Think much comes down to the style of music that you prefer and portability need. The 1A is more analytical than the 1Z, however retains Sony's signature sound. The SR25 is more mid focused and forward, sounds a lot smoother than what the Sony can reproduce, having a beautiful tone that at times absolutely shines. The Sony has more bottom end, a touch more visceral and of course the sound signature can be tweaked via region change and or custom firmware. Random thoughts... WM1A/Z Sony house sound, personally preferring the 1A Sony DSP Pure DAP, no WiFi streaming Great selection of firmware mods Smarter, although more limited UI No 2.5 Balanced 1Z Physically heavy, stupidly so IMO for a portable SR25 A&K house sound PEQ Streaming DAP without the downsides of needless apps/services or Google's intrusive data harvesting More power on hand than the Sony Disk mode allowing the use of external hard drives/SSD No 3rd party firmware mods No 4.4 balanced A&K and Sony have very differing philosophies with their respective hardware reflecting the same. The SR25 to me is a breakout product for A&K as it presents the vast majority of what A&K is capable of sonically at a far more sensible price point combined with a superb battery life. The Current 1A/1Z remain to be very solid choices for a high end DAP, equally they stand to be surpassed which to some extents the SR25 does. The SR25 is getting a lot of very positive reviews and I can now see why. Personally I listen to what I like, including the hardware and look to avoid blindly following any specific company. I've considered a DAP from A&K in the past however generally discounted them for one reason or the other. The SR25 changed that being the right DAP at the right time & place, being the 128Gb model sweetened the deal. Is worth minding that A&K looks to have heavily focused on optimising the SR25 for battery life which can trade of in wireless capabilities, although I've not had issue myself. It's takes me a good while to dial into a new DAP (or sound signature), as I don't care to make a make a judgement off the back of a handful of tracks. I would however in this case safely say that the A&K SR25 is an excellent DAP with few if any pitfalls for my needs. Quick update, mostly been listening on 3.5 SE, switching now to 2.5 balanced, offers more power and very slightly better separation, illustrating just how good the 3.5 SE is implemented on the SR25. The Sony has the "bigger" sound, yet the A&K is more engaging coming across as more balanced and natural, which very much surprises... Any specific questions, feel free to ask Q-6
