My modded wm1z is the best dap I've heard. Highly recommended. Steve did incredible stuff on my wm1z. I still get the urge to try new daps but so far nothing has beaten the sony. I'd love to get a dmp z1 but I can afford one and they are hard to get hold of in the uk

Just about to post my WM1A off to Steve today and really looking forward to receiving back the finished product.
My journey began on a flight from Australia when I realised that the battery life wasn’t so good, and bought a WM1AM2. Although I have since discovered after a few discharges/charges that the battery life was okay I was already on a journey to improve my WM1A and had discovered this site.
I really don’t like the Android device, clunky in form and use, so whilst I will enjoy using the M2 whilst my WM1A is away it will be sold once I get the modified player back.
I’m wondering why the latest mod uses a 3200 mah Battery rather than the 4100 used earlier. Is it just because it’s better, or to get the new rear plate down flat? If the latter then this has my approval because I want to continue using my Dignis case. I nearly agreed to buy an earlier modded WM1A currently for sale elsewhere, but then realised it wouldn’t fit in my case.
I’m really thinking of keeping this WM1A going forever. I’m even looking to buy a mint WM1Z as a backup and to get the treatment later. Also wondering if the battery in the modded player will be an easy DIY replacement in 5-10 years time?

Hi Buddy, like many batteries from China unfortunately the 4100mAh printed on the original ones turned out to be fake and actually measured around 3170mAh on my since purchased analyser. The original ones are also no longer produced, I moved on to some different ones for a brief period until they started sending inconsistent looking/sized ones, I bought a fair few different ones before settling on the current ones. So the previous mods didn't have a larger capacity just a larger fake rating printed on them 😅 From all the ones I've tried I've figured it's not actually possible for lithium ion in a battery of those dimensions to provide more than around 3200mAh tops.

Are the batteries in Sony players always good quality?

Thanks Steve, that’s what I suspected. And what are the chances of me being able to replace the battery in 2030? Obviously access is now easy on the v5 mod player. I can use a soldering iron, and have replaced some batteries on other stuff I own, but not capable of the modifications talked about here.
Anyway, my player is now with Royal Mail so should be with you tomorrow. I might be 60 but I can still get excited about these things. 😀

I bought myself a set of USC-C breakout boards recently and made myself a USB-C to WM Port adapter from a cheap cable. Has anybody thought of doing this directly in the player so it can be connected via a USB-C cable? It’s the one feature I’ll miss when I sell my WM1AM2.
