Is it because: You simply have headphones/iems using 3.5mm You prefer the pairing with some headphones/iems You don't need the exta power of 4.4mm on some pairings You review/test headphones/iems that come with 3.5mm as standard Longer battery life Erm, becasue it's there Reason for asking, a possible new mod for 3.5mm I just thought of. Hold on a sec. Does the battery last more on 3.5mm?? I thought that was debunked sometime ago!

It must do as it pulls a little less amps from my bench psu that I use during modding in single ended mode.

I have never used the 3.5 and after your mod it is no longer there

Using 3.5 with Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro sometimes, as you can't connect a balanced cable unless you mod it, and I also use it sometimes as Line Out. So yes, I'm using it, and I wouldn't want to get rid of it

I use it too from time to time as line-out and with koss portapros. imo the SE on high gain has some juice to drive yhe koss porta pro to decent sound quality

I find the 3.5mm useful for all of the above reasons and for me one main reason to add is that it seems that some recordings tend to sound more natural with 3.5 vs. 4.4mm output. Most of the time the 4.4mm is not only more powerful but more resolving as well. Besides that I just don't wanna swap out all my IEMs and headphones to 4.4mm...I like having options!

Thanks guys my reason for asking is I can drive 3.5mm from 2 of the balanced coils +L +R and just add ground. I can aleady fix into balanced mode permanently. 3.5mm would still be single ended but benefit from the higher quality components of the balanced out.

That's a very good idea, nice!
The 3.5mm port should also become more powerful, right?

It shouldn't be too far off balanced power, it's only in my head currently With regards to battery life I may be able to push to 4600mah but I won't know for a few weeks when they arrive.

I never thought the headphones socket o an ATM was for the blind and visually impaired. I used to rhino it was for programming the device or maintaining it. I also thought maybe has some elevator music on it.
Haha as curiosity I brought my koss portapro to the bank to give it a try, thinking some music would come out hahaha

Anyone tried Silver Gold(1%) alloy cables on their 1A yet? I am going to try them for the 4.4mm and battery leads. Any info on timbre and sound signature will be quite welcome. Thank you.

Probably going with Mundorf 11mm Silver/Gold foil for the 4.4mm out. And Neotech 24 gauge Silver Gold solid for the battery.

I tried solid gold and it was a nightmare to solder. Too high temperature and it would like crystlise too low and it wouldn't be hot enough to attach to copper properly. Low melting point solder required but I gave up. I could attach it but it didn't look neat 😂 Those foils sound interesting.

www.hificollective.co.uk/wire/mundorf-silver-gold-foil.htmlSilver Gold Foil USB Cable that I built, is probably the most transparent cable I have ever heard, and Tonality is extremely believable. Before I modified my amplifiers, and changed fuses....Copper sounded better, but now Silver Gold is hands down the winner. I also need to change my XLR foil from Copper to Silver Gold foil. Gold is too rich for my tastes, not really practical. Good to know it's hard to solder, makes the choice very easy

I had a bad experience buying from Amazon UK. I recently bought a Sony WM1A used but in new condition from the Amazon Warehouse. When I received delivery of the WM1A I was shocked to find it was an empty box. There was no Sony WM1A in the box. I found this very distressing. I then contacted Amazon customer services and explained to them that I received an empty box and they apologised and gave me a full refund.
I seen another WM1A for sale brand new on Amazon but unfortunately I had no funds to buy it because I was waiting for the refund to appear in my bank account. However by the time I got my refund the WM1A was sold out and out of stock.
I am still waiting for them to come back in stock on Amazon UK. However, I have the Cowon Plenue 2 which is a great sounding DAP and I was wondering if the Sony WM1A has better sound quality than the Plenue 2?
