I have a question.
If the internal battery of my WM1A dies and no linger holds a charge. Could i still use the DAP with an external piwerbank? Or not anymore?
I know SMP-Z1 hqs a separate DC in jack to rhe usb port and can be used in AC or battery mode

2019 was sony last release of a walkman model, practically making it a two year with nothing new.
There were some rumors of a new WM1A/Z Mark 2 being released between Q3 2020 and Q1 2021, nothing realized because COVID-19 pandemic.
Then we have rumors again going on that WM1 Mark 2 will be android and streaming.
Lets see what sony brings to the table this year. If they decide to change direction and rely on android and streaming BS. Ill look how can i get a DMP-z1.
Do you think sony may stop making the “walkman OS”?

I'd imagine with the pandemic they've had to re-prioritize where they focus their efforts, and the WM line can't be of much importance since DAPs are so niche to begin with, what with everyone using their smartphones these days. ZX507 sales surely must have influenced the decision too. I definitely commend them for not giving in to this trend of a new DAP every single year though, unlike all these ChiFi companies that dominate the audio market now. Always released with so many issues and then forgotten the next year. The WM1A/Z are almost like game consoles where they get released and stick around for over 5 years before the next upgrade Honestly not a bad approach IMO, although MrWalkman's the only one who's been giving any consistent updates to the firmware while Sony's all but abandoned these DAPs it seems like, so maybe they don't deserve so much praise exactly.... Wouldn't be surprised if whatever DAP they release next still isn't an upgrade from the WM1A/Z line but rather is just another thing aimed for mid-level consumers not wanting to go over $1k.

While it now is nearly 2 years since the latest official fw from Sony, during the first 3 years they released 4 or 5 fw updates, some with substantial new features, which to my knowledge is considerably more than most other manufacturers have done

How to force an okder walkman that does not support DSD playback like my NW-A25. stack it up with a WMC-NWH10 cable to a WM1A-Z or A55 as usb DAC lol

Hi all, first post here.
a few days ago I'd sent my new purchased (used, but like new - even the protective foil is still on it's body) WM1A to Steve to do his wonderful work on it. I had followed the WM1A/WM1Z treads on HeadFi at times for years. When i will get the WM1A EXPmV3 back I will compare it to my Quloos QA361 and the QA390 (especially the QA390 need a very long time to burn in - even after 300 hours it is still improving - and it's so versatile ). It will be even compared to my stationary gear - a LTA MicroZOTL MZ3 and Audial S4 DAC.
To cut a long story short ... I allready have two questions, maybe you will be so kind and try to answer these: 1. I have ordered a BCR-NWH10 Sony Walkman cradle in Japan but have realized that the modded WM1A EXPmV3 is thicker than stock - will it even though fit? 2. All my FLAC's are proper tagged including the "LYRICS" tag. LMS, SquezzeLite, A&K and iBasso DAP's recognize it and are showing the word's. In the short time I had the WM1A with me before sending it to Steve i tested it. All's fine, apart from showing the lyrics. What's the problem?
Many thanks in advance Bodo

However the effects of the modding only affects the headphone out, not the WMport out so unless you just use the cradle as a charging station with headphone out you dont get any benefit from the mod or you just get a very expensive charging station

nc8000, thank you for your time. I'm no expert, but I belief the digital path profit from the upgrade too, albeit to a much lesser degree than the analog one.

Someone on head-fi posted shots of some apparently Chinese leak on the new WM1Z successor. Getting DX300 vibes from its size. If it's real it must be a prototype since I can't imagine them making that puke-y gold color the new standard 1Z model instead of something with actual copper. Gotta have some excuse to charge more money, after all Much more power output at least to DX300 levels should be a given, but I bet battery life will be the same old song. Anyway it could be fake so I'm not gonna put too much speculation into it. Hopefully we get concrete news soon. FWIW, the Chinese basically says "Showing you guys something not on the market yet, Sony's new gold brick, has an Android system with that familiar signature sound."

But if true. Android dissappointment . 1) locked system or very hard to mod a la MrWalkman 2) excessive background processes for apps not needed on a DAP 3) data spying from google
I am wondering if new S-master and better piwer output. I noted on the pictures the SD slot to be missing, it may have been moved to the side.
If so android ill ask nayparm the opening of a slot to send mine to be nayparmed

The microSD slot is on the side under the Hold slider. Provided this is real and not a fake
