I didn’t have time to test the latest firmware either, downloaded it, installed it on the just bought WM-1A and sent it to Steve on the mod. But the previous firmware suited me on WM-1Z.

Mr. Walkman sold his WM1A due to needing funds for moving countries, but Nayparm recently gave him a new modded one, so I imagine he'll get back to it someday. Probably is still busy due to whatever caused the sudden move.

I've said it several times at head-fi, and wanted to say it at least once here: thank you, MrWalkman. I recently bought a brand new WM1A. I was away from the hobby for almost 6 years until "coming back" almost a year ago.
It took me a while to figure out what I want/don't want. I decided I have zero interest in streaming, at least based on what streaming services look like currently, and I therefore don't want Android and the terrible battery life/health that comes with those devices. As a Sony fanboy, I gravitated towards the WM1A, but was hesitant because it's so late in its product life and frankly, it is underpowered and no lineout.
Still, the CFW's kept it in the game for me. After a month of owning my WM1A, I am happy with it, and when/if I need a more powerful device, I'll worry about it then.
Even if MrWalkman is done for good (I sincerely hope not as he was very helpful on head-fi beyond his CFW's), I say "thank you" and wish him the best.

You can't really in general say it is underpowered. Yes there are headphones it does not have power to drive properly but there are many more for which it has plenty power. I could say that every dap and many amps on the market are underpowered since they can't drive a HE-6 or a K1000 but that would also be nonsens. Underpowered as a term only makes sense for a specific pairing not for an individual device

I just love that fact that MrWalkman offered as many different tuning profiles as he did. Each offered small but obvious improvements over the last and there's clearly something for everyone. The ProjectZ tuning is perfect for me, it's warm, balanced and has plenty of bass.
Regardless of anyone's preference, the real improvements are in the firmware itself. Faster UI, wider image format support and accelerated menus only add to players that are already above and beyond what other companies are offering.

I have now been a week back on FEv2 this time on region E and I must say this is a much brighter and livelier experience with more kick and attack than Midnight on J that I've been using for several months. This on my nayparm modded 1Z

Can anyone please give me a link to firmware to change language from Japanese to English. My board is stock Japanese, no option to switch languages. If I remember it correctly MrWalkman gave a program to do it automatically a while ago.

If you do a factory reset while in J you will end up in Japanese
