Hi Mr.Walkman. When you use words like update, J3, you really have my attention. I’m a big fan of reg. J, but the compressed bass and veiled treble is really distracting. Could J3 be all that, but with a better Low/high end (like in MX3)? Hopefully there'll be a test build soon I’m In! Really interested in those new regions. + your magic, off cause!👍

For anyone interested, you can give a try to the J1/J2/J3 regions on the Walkman One firmware ( only for the WM1A/Z players) - these regions are basically new. In order to install this, you have to revert back to the stock firmware first. After installing it, you can just go in the settings file and set J1, J2, or J3 as the region. If you delete the settings file, a new one will be created which will also mention the J1, J2, and J3 regions - using these regions will work without having to delete the settings file, this is just for visual aid, maybe. There are no other new features in this Walkman One package - only the 3 regions. LINK (MEGA)
So far I like the J3 region really much. I am using the WM1Z sound signature on my WM1A (with the MDR-1AM2, single-ended port), and the bass is more impactful than simply with the J region, while there is some realism and cleanliness to the sound which I really like. The soundstage seems more focused in a way - in comparison with other regions it feels like there is less echo, which I think it adds to the realism. I really like how it sounds. Of course, this is only my opinion.

It sounds cleaner with more impactful bass. It's an overall way tighter sound (almost no perceivable echo). You nailed it soundstage wise with the "more focused" desc. I'm not sure I like this better than the J region but it's very nice to have this sound option now for sure. Edit2: Are J1 and J2 progressions from J to J3? So far I think J2 is what fits my taste best haha. It's like the perfect balance for musicality and tightness to me. It retains that bit of echo that adds to the musicality while sounding a bit cleaner and tighter.

MrWalkman Btw, is it necessary to reset the unit after applying the region change through the settings file?

No, you only need to restart the player. After some more testing I'm definitely keeping the J2 region with my setup. It's got the perfect balance between clarity, impact, musicality... everything! It sounds absolutely glorious! The sound doesn't "embrace" you quite like the J region but everything else is just state of the art, specially clarity wise. It loses a tiny bit of warmth to ascend in every other category.

J3 seems to strike a nice balance between J and MX3 which are the 2 regions I've been swapping between the last year. I can see myself staying on it

I went back to J region after a day. I missed its "embrace". J2 ended up a bit cold for me, and J3 is definitely cold for my setup. Maybe it's because I'm on Dawn 2.1 haha.

I always loved the Dawn 2.1 (Bright) sound signature because it complements my slightly dark side headphones very well haha.

Watching a movie with J3 is really cool, especially with the voices being heard more clear.

If you guys ever get a chance, try swapping your battery stranded cables for 26 gauge Solid Silver/Gold cables. Really brings out stage depth, and life like tonality of instruments. I had a buddy of mine listen to the modded 1A last night, he is a music producer....and to put it mildly... he was floored by the quality of the sound. I will be modding a 1A for him as well Still on the Dawn Version 3.....I am looking forward to comparing this to the new players that Sony has released. The new players are a no go for me because of the Android software, but I am still looking to see for myself how much of a leap they have taken compared to the Tricked out 1A.
