Interesting look about the 3.5mm. It only contains the socket. That means the differentials for SE-Lineout is built into the main board. So the Dx300 is bullet proof for any line out from any sockets with the correct polarities

Thanks for the forum invite!
I definitely plan on modding my DX300 -at least the amp section which looks like it'll be relatively easy to work on- and am really looking forward to seeing what ideas for it the community comes up with.
Though I've been modding for years my electronics knowledge is really limited so I mostly stick to substituting parts for audiophile equivalents and very simple circuit changes. Thankfully most mods are surprisingly easy to do if you know how to use a soldering iron (a lot easier than people think) and in my experience the improvements yielded by some shockingly cheap & easy mods often dwarf stuff like cable upgrades. (which doesn't stop me spending money on cables, moving right along then...)
On a slightly related note despite never owning one I read they released a Nutube AMP for the DX220. I'm a long-time lover of tube sound but am yet to hear a Nutube device, and have been curious how close they sound to the real thing. I'm guessing an equivalent Nutube AMP would have less empty space than the discrete AMP that comes with the DX300 (a surprising amount?) but modding one would be a fun project.
Lastly I took a look at the Sony modding forumn and Nayparm the amount of stuff you manage to squeeze into a WM1Z is off the charts, way beyond what I would've thought possible. Love it when modders push the envelope!

Welcome aboard bosk, it's great to have another fellow DIYer aboard I have a couple of things left to add to the Sony mods too Itching to mod the amp11 too but I have a few other daps to mod first. This is good as it will allow burn in to happen on the stock caps

Still having a lot of fun to Walkman eh ??. Welcome bosk , we all started from Somewhere and it’s best when it started from the heart. When you love it, you learn it automatically. @nayparm I take that the side with shielding tapes is facing upward to the Screen ? It look to have a little opening probably for wireless signals purposes and the active components will do better with some shielding

It's not great to be honest. It's not copper, it's not grounded and its stuck on a bit of tape that isn't very sticky. I reckon with a bit of heat it could become loose and the top side could short the amp if it turns over.

I've had a couple off for being ill but made a start on the AMP11 this eve while I wait for Kemets to arrive. Listening now and will burn these in before the kemets come. Sounding great off the mark. Stock Step 1 - it may change but sounding great đź‘Ť

Really appreciate the progress update and the photos Nayparm! May I ask a couple of questions please?
I've only recently come back to DIY after years out of it and back then those Audio Note electrolytics didn't exist, at least I never remembered seeing them. How do they compare with Silmic II's? I've seen their pricing and like everything Audio Note, not cheap by comparison.
Secondly you mention kemets. Those are ceramic caps for bypassing the electrolytics right? If so I would love to hear your thoughts on bypassing in general (a fairly contentious subject in DIY circles or at least it used to be) and would be keen to know which type of kemet caps you use.
Sorry last question, why did you ground one leg of that black Audio Note cap to a different location? Looks extremely neat the way you did it though.

The Kemets are to replace the AVX tantalums with Kemet KO T520 Or T543 series. These are tantalum polymer low ESR 25mohms, high ripple, high temp. I may be using some silmics too. I like silmics but they are large, Nichicon KZ are large too. Fine Golds are mostly the same size as the Kasei and very good. I used the ground pin for convenience, shortness and neetness. Kaseis are very nice.

Thanks Nayparm, I can't wait to see what you have in store for the DX300. Really hoping they bring out a Nutube amp card for this player.

Removal AVX 33uf Kemets installed (still need to install a 100uf) Audio Notes piggy backed May install silmics for filtering. May upgrade buffers, don't know, this isn't for me.
