We all really want a new firmware)) Mr Walkman on March 20 wrote that in 2-3 weeks it will appear ... we are waiting and waiting for it, with impatience. I mean I'm pretty damned happy with what MrWalkman has achieved already. I don't want new firmware for the sake of it, there has to be a use case or a reason. MrWalkman has done more for the ZX300/1A/1Z lineup than Sony has. It'll arrive when it arrives. There will be at least 3 new things in the next release : More regions with different sound A (much) higher gain for harder to drive phones The low latency overlay for usb dac use

Looking bleak on the new firmware! Not really as it's already fantastic ππ When MrWalkman was churning out firmwares for all the different models he was out of work. Not great for him but but lots of us Sony owners benefitted, and Sony too I expect with more sales π
I doubt what donations he did receive made it sustainable. He since moved countries and works full time so I'm sure any free time is now scarce. Doing what he was doing takes a huge amount of time and when he wasn't working on the frmwares he was supporting them π² If anything further comes great, if not what we all have is great.

Sorry, did mot mean it that way, the firmware he has done is amazing and I hope now that he has full to work he is happy and more content. He has no need to bring out anything new. I am happy just to use what he has already brought out.

We all want better sound and features π My reply was for the general wider audience as not everyone realises just how his situation changed and how much time needs investing into something like this. If he is working on anything it's better he's off scene with no pressure and he can enjoy what he does when he gets chance. I don't know if he is or not though as I've not spoken to him for a good while.

I posted some info on the blog and the link to the Walkman One with J1, J2, and J3 for WM1A/Z as well. There are no other builds for other devices at the moment. By the way, I just changed the domain from www.nwmods.ml to www.mrwalkman.com - it may take a few hours or something in order for it to start working. Accessing www.nwmods.ml will redirect you to www.mwalkman.com automatically.

Hi,
I know that there is no custom firmware for Sony android players yet, but is this something that is far away? or will it never happen?
What will happen to the new generation of players that will inevitably be on Android and will be too...? can never be unlocked?
thx.

I've found ways to root many Android DAPs but I've not seen an Android Sony as yet so never ventured there. It will probably be possible with the right tools/equipment but to invest alot of time and possibly money into it and then also create custom ROMs and support them is probably not going to happen as these things are generally all wanted for free. I also don't think the user base or life longevity of the Android players will be anywhere near the WM1A/Z level, they have unfortunately lost there uniqueness and brought nothing special to the android/soc side of things either. I think I've had one enquiry about hardware mods for the new gen and he didn't own one.

Since getting my WM1Z from Steve in May, I've been enjoying it very much. The combination of NP's Upgrades, Mr. Walkman firmware and lack of Android bloat makes this player one of the best on the market. Being able to separate out Android with my OnePlus N105G (solely for streaming via LDAC) is a huge plus and complements my other LDAC Dongle HM1000 Gold Quad. I haven't even rolled different firmwares yet haha. I've just used what Steve shipped it with (not sure what it is tbh). Need to figure this firmware stuff out and play with it haha. Thank you guys for making this audio journey possible. NPAudio, MrWalkman,

Sorry for tagging you again NPAudio, I can't figure out how to reply to a post haha. Forgive me I love the HM1K as a LDAC dongle. The sound is clear yet detailed and has that classic Hifiman tuning. The software is terrible but the sound is what keeps me coming back. There are some hardware shortcomings like the less than stellar battery life and it can get quite warm on higher gain settings. The size of HM1K Gold is remarkable given the sound quality. When paired up with an external amp like Aroma A100TB, my jaw drops. HM1K Gold is the best sounding portable DAP I've used and it's a shame it's discontinued. The noise floor of HM1K isn't as good as the 1Z. Given the pros/cons of the 1Z (warm sound, lower power output, low noise floor) and HM1K (detailed clear sound, higher power output, dedicated LO stages) the combo is unbeatable imho.
